This Buddha sits peacefully with an alms bowl in his left hand. The fact that the alms bowl is full represents charity, humility and nourishment. The mudra this Buddha displays is the “gesture of charity” also known as “gift bestowing gesture of compassion”, “conferring boon” or “grace” mudra. The sprout growing from Buddhas arm symbolizes rebirth, spiritual growth and blossoming of inner potential. The robes he is wearing are carved with Buddhas life story.
About Mudras:
Mudras are specific representative body positions, hand and/or finger gestures sometimes referred to as “seals” or “marks” and are highly symbolic.
