This Buddha is showing the bhumisparsha mudra which represents the moment of Buddha’s enlightenment. After defeating the demon Mara, Buddha reaches down to touch the earth, calling upon the earth goddess to witness his victory. His right hand in bhumisparsha and his left hand on his lap in mediation represents the union between wisdom and  method symbolizing his right to achieve nirvana.
